Caliendo Out At FOX; NBC Idiots Mourn

TBS VERY FUNNY comedy hack Frank Caliendo is out at FOX, thankfully, meaning the network’s NFL pregame show is now unlikely to include the uninspired John Madden impression you could just as easily get from the stand-up working the ballroom at your local Holiday Inn Express. Let’s not celebrate Caliendo’s shitcanning too excessively. If there’s anything we’ve learned from the networks that cover the NFL, it’s that there’s another horrible personality ready to spring forward, hydra-like, from where Frank was lopped off.

While the viewer might be happy that Caliendo is gone, rest assured that people who work hard to piss you off each week during the NFL season are disconsolate about the news. When it comes to terrible TV, game respect game. No other way to explain this write-up on Caliendo’s dismissal by Mike Florio.

In the viewing room at 30 Rock, only a couple of pregame features make the various on-air personalities (e.g., Dan Patrick, Rodney Harrison, Tony Dungy), producers, veteran reporters (i.e., Peter King), and Internet hacks (i.e., me) stop and pay attention.

One of those moments comes when Frank Caliendo does his thing on FOX.

It’s times like these that I wish there were a 26-letter German word for something that is devastatingly depressing yet still oddly comforting because it reinforces your dark worldview. That would totally apply here. Let me know when the coinage is set, Germans.

When the worst in analysis and the worst in quasi-reportage meet with the worst in comedy, that’s… pretty much where the money is, I guess. Take it away, Floors:

It’s unknown whether FOX will try to replace him. It won’t be easy.
