The Dallas Cowboys regained the ball following a Detroit turnover on downs with 1:24 left in the game on the Lions’ 31. Detroit had two timeouts, so all the Cowboys would need for a victory was a first down. According to Advanced NFL Stats, they had a win probability of 99 percent:
They couldn’t get that, but worst of all, they gave the Lions the ball back after burning only 22 seconds with a three-and-out followed by a field goal.
Of course, stopping Matt Stafford from going 80 yards for a touchdown with no timeouts in the span of a minute isn’t the most difficult proposition. Unless you’re Monte Kiffin’s dogsh*t defense, that is.
