A lot of off-season expectation and narrative tied up in this one. RGIII’s rehab since FedEx Field shredded his ligaments in the playoffs has been painstakingly covered by all media since the start of the year. How he fares and how much he’s subject to contact will be much discussed and even more yelled about. Especially if he happens to get hurt even in the slightest.
Then there’s the debut of Chip Kelly’s revolutionary supersonic offense, which would be a big deal on its own, since it’s not difficult to find someone who believes his offensive gameplanning is going to change the face of the sport. I expect Gruden to spend most of the evening loudly marveling at some of the formations used.
So, yeah. No matter what, there’s going to be dramatic reactions and takes on the proceedings. Fine by me so long as the game can live up to its potential for offensive fireworks. Though if it’s anything like the rest of Week 1, it’ll be mostly sloppy with flashes of the spectacular.
