As expected, Ed Reed didn’t remain a free agent long after being cut by the Texans earlier this week. The nine-time Pro Bowler signed with the Jets a day after clearing waivers, reuniting him with Rex Ryan, who coached Reed as a defensive coordinator in Baltimore before he became the Jets head coach.
Rex told the media this week that he is satisfied with the play of his safeties, so it’s unclear how Reed will fit in immediately, unless Rex just wants Reed to impart the wisdom of riding the rails and growing a hobo beard to the rest of his secondary.
This also means Ed Reed gets a second return game to Baltimore this season. He played in Houston’s 30-9 Week 3 loss in Baltimore. The Jets travel to M&T Bank Stadium in Week 12. So apparently Ed Reed’s mission this season was to play as many games possible in Baltimore without actually being a member of the Ravens. So far, so good.
