When the Texans neglected to draft a quarterback in the first or second round this year (though they did get pre-draft meeting champ, Tom Savage, in the fourth), they were left to choose from either occasionally competent youngster Case Keenum or flamed out former Bills starter Ryan Fitzpatrick to be the team’s starting quarterback come the start of the 2014 season. Evidently, new head coach Bill O’Brien has seen enough – FITZMAGIC RIDES AGAIN! It’s gonna be like a beardier Matt Schaub!
Personally, I think Keenum has a bit more promise but I suppose O’Brien wants a more veteran presence under center. That or he’s as impressed by his Harvard diploma as every NFL announcer who calls Fitzmagic games. Just so long as the Texans don’t make the mistake the Bills made and give him a huge contract if he happens to win a few starts.
Not that it matters greatly. Neither seems likely to set the world on fire, especially if Andre Johnson gets his wish to play for a team more likely to contend. It’s gonna be up to J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney to destroy the other quarterback before the team falls behind multiple scores.
