With the NHL set to have its latest Stadium Series game, this one between the Penguins and Blackhawks on March 1 at Solider Field, Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury is expressing some yinzer sports synergy by outfitting his goalie mask to resemble the design of a Steelers helmet, down to the logo on appearing on one side. Though the fake chin is a little unsettling.
Even though it makes sense because the Penguins are playing a team from another NFL city in that city’s football stadium, you wonder why this hasn’t been done before, especially since the Penguins have already played an outdoor game at Heinz Field. That’s probably putting too much thought into what is just a cutesy gesture. Ultimately, a no. 29 Steelers helmet lets me believe that Barry Foster is still kicking around. His one good season in ’92 was the stuff of flash-in-the-pan legends, I tells ya.
