Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy endeared himself to fans last season by, in addition to posting 15 sacks, constantly referring to himself as Kraken and saying in TV player introductions that he attended Hogwarts. All of a sudden, he seems a little harder to root for now that he’s turned himself to police on charges of threatening and assaulting his girlfriend.
“We are very disappointed to learn of the allegations involving Greg and are concerned for all parties as we continue to investigate,” the Panthers said in a statement.
According to a police statement, officers responded to a call around 4:18 a.m. Tuesday morning at the 100 block of North Tryon Street. A woman, who said she and Hardy had been in a relationship since September, said she had been physically assaulted and threatened by Hardy, according to the statement.
That’s too bad. Until now, Kraken has been taking his aggression out on quarterbacks and cereal, which are generally much better outlets than his girlfriend.
Hardy will spend the night in jail before meeting with a judge on Wednesday morning.
