Last week, we were treated to a rare Monda night game that looked good on paper and it ended up being a disgusting blowout, so since we already know this match-up sucks, hopefully the complete opposite holds true.
A week ago, Atlanta got the Patriots without their best defensive player for almost the entire game and still needed a furious comeback just to fall agonizingly short. Truth be told, they looked feckless for a team coming off a conference title appearance from the year before. The Falcons failed twice on fourth down in the red zone, which seems to be a rather fatal flaw for them of late. Atlanta will still be without Steven Jackson against the Jets and will have to find some answer for their ground game after managing only 58 yards rushing against a Wilfork-less Pats. If not, fortunately for them both Julio Jones and Roddy White are active, so at least the passing game will have all of its weapons.
The Jets are trying to rebound from a debacle of their own in Tennessee. New York came in hoping for a statement win to jump to a surprising 3-1 but were instead manhandled 38-13. Geno Smith turned the ball over four times including a Nacho-like fumble for a touchdown.
While no one is much entertaining thoughts of the Jets taking their division, with Miami falling back to earth, a wild card game isn’t out of the realm of possibility if they can continue to surprise teams here and there. New Orleans’ 5-0 means the NFC South will start looking out of hand early unless the Atlanta starts stringing together wins soon.
