It’s been a good January for offensive coordinators of losing playoff teams. After the Bengals imploded against the Chargers, the Redskins named Cincinnati offensive coordinator Jay Gruden their new head coach. And following Sunday’s mostly flat offensive performance by San Diego in Denver, Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt was named the new Titans head coach on Monday night.
That’s all well and good, except the Lions were once again made to feel all the sads.
Ken Whisenhunt agreed to be the next coach of the Tennessee Titans today, shunning an opportunity to reunite with his former teammate, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew, in Detroit.
The Lions were prepared to travel to California early today to bring Whisenhunt, the San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator, to Detroit to meet with ownership, but the private plane they were scheduled to use never left its hangar.
In fairness, take a look the Lions jet. Decide for yourself whether it would have made the trip to the West Coast.
