I’m PFT Commenter and I’m counting down the 10 sharpest minds in the industry. Where will your favorite analyst or sports person land? (probably not high)

Ranked on: Infotainment value, being a pros pro and strength of takes

8. Jim Rome

Infotainment Value: 5

Alot of people dont know this but before the internet age i was actually a pretty well known caller on Romes show which was basicly ProFootballTalks comment section only with words not typing. Not to brag but I had like a bunch of huge calls that got racked in the few weeks after 9/11, which is actually when Rome was at his best IMO.

This is really the only problem w/ his infotainment score. Its mostly not even him delivering the goods on his show,, half of Romes show is Clones being just kind of off the wall and hilarious,, and the other part is half him talking and seriously probably basicly half the show where hes just pausing for air or picking his butt or something so he gets a 5.

Being a Pros Pro: 3

Anytime you manage to antagonize a White QB to the point were he whoops your butt on international TV your lacking a bit of professionalism and tact. If I was Rome I would of stood up and yelled in to the camra, “Get this CLOWN of my stage and save him the embarasment.” Playing the clown card is always good because it catches people off guard and really embarasses them because most professional athletes didnt have parental support and are afraid of clowns FYI.

Rome is known as brilliant but abrasive but thats what they say about Trump too. Folk’s hate success and you cant help but be intimated by Romes signature mid-90s relief pitcher facial hair. Also, anytime you have a badass dictionary of slang terms that you use on your show your going to isolate some of the more traditional loser “journalists” who are more interested in spelling than telling.

Strength of Takes: 10

I wish i had a statboy to verify these but Im pretty sure that Jim Rome invented takes. Or at least if he didnt invent them its like a Sam Adams situation. Even if they didnt invent microbrews they basicly perfected it so they deserve most of the credit. Rome gave takes a great definition of takes that I go by and thats the old Vinny Sunseri code: “dont react to things that happened in sports,,ACT on them.”

Best Career Moment: Not NFL related but probly the time he put a 3,thousand dollar bountygate on Gordie Howe when he was 70 and playing in a exhibition match that was pretty edgy. He also hosted and gave takes at Pat Tilmans funeral which was a absolute slam dunk of a episode.

Total Score: 18. Jim Rome is burning changed the way America watched TV (we watched 30 mins more of it)
