Saints got the ball near midfield. Lined up with the intention of drawing the Eagles offside. A flag was thrown and for an instant, it seemed like they were successful, but it was a false start on Brees.

Teams traded possessions. The Eagles punted and were about to pin the Saints at their own goal line but then Roc Carmichael ran up to down it but instead kicked it into the end zone for a touchback. A Jimmy Graham reception for a first down got New Orleans. The next play, Drew Brees took a shot deep for Kenny Stills but was intercepted by Bradley Fletcher.

Philly put together their first sound drive of the game, but once it seemed like someone might actually get points on the board, the Eagles lost 19 yards on two plays, the latter being a Nick Foles sack after he held the ball for 10 seconds. The Eagles ran a draw just to get back within the edge of field goal range, but Alex Henery missed the 48-yard kick anyway.

Just when it looked like Jimmy Graham fumbled on the Eagles side of the field and another scoring opportunity was squandered, the referees overturned the fumble, saying his ankle touched the ground just before the ball was stripped. With the ball back, the Saints faced a 4th and 1 from inside the 20 and decided to go for it. Brees would have gotten the first down on a sneak but Benjamin Watson was flagged for a false start. Instead, Shayne Graham hit a 36-yard field goal for the game’s first points.

The Saints got the ball back and were in position to extend their lead, but then Brees threw a bad interception, missing DeMeco Ryans in coverage entirely. With the ball back, the Eagles go down the field for their first score, naturally to Riley Cooper. Eagles fans have erupted with COOOOPP chants after each of his receptions, making sure the world always knows they’re despicable shitstains.

The Saints, determined to make it a closely contested middling game, added a 46-yard field goal to make it 7-6 at half.
