Hard to believe, but after Davone Bess was among the leaders in dropped passes (some outlets say he led the league with 14, others say he only had nine) in 2013 then ended the year by twice sharing pictures of weed on social media and getting arrested for assaulting an officer at an airport in Florida, the receiver was cut by the Browns on Wednesday.
Bess was acquired by Cleveland in a draft day trade with the Dolphins (along with an exchange of 5th round picks) a little less than a year ago. He was then given a three-year contract extension with $5.75 million guaranteed. The Browns are reportedly interested in recouping the remaining guaranteed money (about $3 million for the 2014 season) but it’s the Browns. They’ll find a way to squander twice as much recovering that $3 mil.
Bess had been a consistently productive player during his five seasons in Miami but once the Factory of Sadness worked its powers on him, his career unraveled in a hurry. That’ll happen.
