Just as the NFL was deciding to uphold Tom Brady’s four-game suspension for probably deflating footballs and definitely smashing cell phones, the league was reevaluating another player’s suspension. That would be the three-game suspension handed down to Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell for getting a DUI while high on marijuana.
On Tuesday, immediately after delivering the Brady decision, the NFL reduced Bell’s suspension to two games. That means Bell will still miss the season opening game in New England, so Pats fans can’t feel cheated about that. Nevertheless, the juxtaposition of Le’Veon Bell getting a suspension for a DUI reduced and Tom Brady having a suspension upheld for destroying a cell phone is just off-putting.
What this means for the Steelers is having their star running back, one of the most important components of their offense, one game earlier than previously thought. That Week 3 game is against the Rams, perhaps not the toughest opponent possible.
