In case you thought the eyebrow bet between Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson wasn’t enough of a publicity stunt, the mayor of a Florida beach town outside Tampa is changing the name of the town to Revis Island for a day.
If you’ve ever wanted to visit ‘Revis Island’ make sure you’re in Florida on Sept. 12 because on that day Revis Island will be a real place that actually exists.
The mayor of Treasure Island, Bob Minning, has issued a special proclamation that will rename his city Revis Island for one day to honor Tampa Bay cornerback Darrelle Revis.
When asked to describe the differences between Treasure Island and Revis Island, Minning paused briefly before replying: “In Treasure Island, we have the most beautiful beaches in all of Tampa Bay, and we always remind beachgoers to wear the appropriate sun screen. But I guess at Revis Island, you don’t need any sun screen – because at Revis Island, you’re ALWAYS covered!”
A random Thursday when the Buccaneers aren’t even playing? Should spur a lot of interest. That said, if the mayor were actually serious about this and strictly enforced people remaining completely covered at all times throughout the day, I would at least appreciate the commitment to a theme.
