New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin recently admitted that the Victor Cruz contract talks were starting to become a distraction. As Cruz has been mostly silent during this offseason, at least regarding the twigs and berries of his wishes and demands, the speculative media monster had previously suggested that Cruz was looking for a contract that would pay him more than $10 million per season. Unfortunately, that’s not the kind of money that the Giants are looking to pay a receiver, not even one that has racked up more than 2,600 yards and 19 touchdowns over the last two seasons.
But now, according to a report by the New York Post, the Giants and Cruz are “on the 2-yard line” regarding his new deal that might at least pay him more than Wes Welker’s $6 million price tag, while bringing him one step closer to fulfilling his dream of being a Giant for his entire career.
“In a perfect world I want to finish my career here,” Cruz said in an exclusive interview. “I’m from here, born and raised in New Jersey. I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else. But I understand it’s a business and all of that. In a perfect world, this is there I’d like to be.”
When asked he thought a deal with the Giants is close, Cruz said, “I’d rather not answer any type of questions now but it’s moving.”
The Post’s source also claimed that both sides “just need to give a little bit”, which I assume means that Cruz needs to give the Giants a picture of Mike Wallace sleeping on his new giant bed of money.
Former Giant Osi Umenyiora told USA Today that he believes that Cruz is handling his negotiations the right way, which is like Kim Kardashian giving Meryl Streep advice about becoming a star.
“He’s doing it the right way for sure,” former Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, whose contract disputes were a story line for his last five years with the team, wrote in an e-mail to USA TODAY Sports. “Going public will get you nowhere. That only puts them in a corner and they don’t respond very well, trust me. Lol.”
LOL! LMAO! ROFL! A2M! Wait, no. Sorry. Anyway, here’s a stock photo of Osi from his contract demands.
And for shits and giggles, check out the list of receivers who currently and will probably still make more money than Cruz by the time his contract is finalized.
