All-Pro linebacker and chicken farmer Von Miller is appealing a four-game suspension stemming from a positive test for amphetamines and marijuana during his rookie season in 2011. Do the wheels of justice in the NFL turn slowly enough that this is just now coming up two years after the fact? Or has Miller been appealing the positive test for two years and no reporter ever bothered to discover it?
Either way, if the suspension stands, the Broncos will start the season without two of their pass rushing standouts from 2012. Elvis Dumervil already departed the team permanently following a rather infamous episode involving a fax machine. Dumervil and Miller combined for 29.5 sacks last season.
So at least for the first month of the season, it appears Denver’s Wes Welker-fortified offense is gonna have to put up a bunch of points to stave off a tough start. Luckily for Denver, after the opener against Baltimore, the team doesn’t face another 2012 playoff team over that four-game stretch.
