The combination of bye weeks and regular Thursday Night Football leaves us with a two game late afternoon slate, topped by 3-3 teams vying for supremacy of a perfect storm of mediocrity. The Jets have done their usual amount of chirping prior to a game against the Patriots, with Rex Ryan assuring the media that he thinks his team is going to beat the Greatriots, while at the same time claiming New England’s defense doesn’t quite get the credit it deserves. Calvin Pace also made his share of headlines by calling the Patriots offense “borderline illegal”, which sounds provocative until you see that he was complimenting the tempo they use to keep the defense from getting substitutions in or even getting set.
The Jets are coming off a decisive victory last week at home over the Colts while the Patriots blew a late lead in suffering their second loss of the season to an NFC West team. Given how inconsistent both these teams have been, there aren’t a lot of outcomes that will come as a surprise. Unless it’s whichever one that relies on competent quarterback play from the Jets.
