Motorbike Surfing And More Wild Ways To Get In The Water Before Summer Ends

By all accounts, Teahupo’o is one of the thickest, scariest waves on the planet. Massive slabs of water jack up over shallow, razor-coral reefs. The best pro surfers in the world freely admit that it scares the hell out of them.

Enter daredevil Robbie Maddison, who saw these monsters of the depths and thought, “I’m going to ride those waves. On a motorbike.”

The video is cool enough as it is, but the reaction shots are absolutely classic. The basic thought in everyone’s mind seems to be the same, “Wow, that’s dope…People think of the weirdest stuff.”

Let your aquatic adventures remain fantasies no longer — watch these videos, then take off a little early tomorrow. Wet those gills. Come February, you’ll be happy you did.

Last Thursday, John John Florence and BrainFarm released the trailer for a movie they’d been secretly filming FOR THREE YEARS. That’s like Alejandro González Iñárritu filming a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio without anyone really knowing and then dropping a trailer that blows minds (oh wait…). If the most talked about WSL athlete and the most progressive action-sports filmmakers can pull off a secret movie, then you can definitely finagle an extra half-hour around lunchtime to get in the waves.

You don’t need to be a professional surfer and you don’t need to be near an ocean. There are adrenaline inducing waterparks all over the globe. The round III media crew rocked it with this video from The Royal Flush in Texas. We’ve posted the clip before…but still…it’s just so cool.

With technology being what it is, Wave Gardens are popping up everywhere. They may not all be Snowdonia quality, but they’re out there. There are also plenty of nature-made standing waves — find them!

OK, you’re not a surfer and you don’t have a water park nearby, the odds are stacked against you. You’re not alone; there are plenty of people with this problem. There are always cliffs (and new, inventive ways to enjoy them). Take a leap before that -20 degree winter sets in.

And urban wakeboarding is a thing now! Urban wakeboarding? Really? That one caught us off guard but it just goes to show there is no excuse for not getting in the water during what’s left of your summer.
