It looks funny, but there’s no real danger. You won’t get any hyperbolic #teamnosnakes or #teamindoors out of me. Here’s why: 1) this is a python and, being that it’s not big enough to constrict a human, it can’t hurt you; 2) THIS IS AUSTRALIA!
Do you know what else happens in Australia?
Have you Googled redback and funnel web spiders? Taken time to read up on stonefish, lion fish, and blue-ringed octopus?
What about Brutus — the bull shark-eating, three-limbed, two-ton crocodile — do you know about him?
I get it, I get it, it’s scary to look down into the toilet and see a giant snake filling the pot. And if it were New York or Omaha, we’d be as bombastic as the next outlet. But when it comes to Australia, there’s no need to add fake drama, there’s plenty of the real stuff. Best to just play it cool and report it straight up: this snake was looking for water in the north of Queensland during the dry season, it crawled into a public toilet, snake wranglers (who have dealt with multiple cases this year) extracted it.
That’s all there is to it, folks. Sorry we couldn’t get more terrified. Unfortunately our fears were focused on other Queensland snakes, like the deadly Eastern Brown Snake striking the camera in this video, for instance. Because when it shows up in your toilet, you won’t have time to snap photos.
