Chipotle is launching a curious campaign to coincide with Halloween. On Halloween from 5 p.m. to close, those who come in costume, but with an additional unnecessary element, will get a $3 Chipotle burrito. This promotion is all designed to raise awareness of “unnecessary additives” in fast food.

You can see the entire campaign here. “Are additives haunting the food you eat?” the website asks. “Typical fast food restaurants talk about doing away with artificial flavors and colors in their food. What they won’t talk about are the other 3,000+ spooky additives that they serve to customers every day.”

Chipotle then lists three common additives that they don’t use. These include soy lecithin, used to help keep salad dressing elements mixed together, carboxymethyl cellulose, which makes food seem richer than it is and propylene glycol, which helps the food look good. Chipotle apparently does all of this by using high quality ingredients, making fresh food every day and serving it efficiently before it needs additives to stay fresh.

The website also has suggestions for unnecessary additive costumes, including a fairy with a beard, a ghost with a cowboy hat and a roller skating mummy. In this way, Chipotle continues to position itself as a healthy alternative to fast food dining.
