Uber Is Using Bop It To Distract Drunk Passengers

In the most equal part revered and reviled of decades, the 1990s, we had to wait upwards of minutes out in the cold to hail a cab. Now, thanks to ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft, that annoyance has been replaced with $1,100 bills for hour-long rides. Hey, speaking of annoying things: Bop It.

“Bop it, twist it, pull it, pass it.”

I still wake up in the middle of the night, screaming, with that horrible voice rattling around my brain. And now Uber drivers will have to hear it constantly; the Guardian reports the “on-demand ride app has been conducting an experiment in the North Carolina city of Charlotte in which drivers leave a Bop It in the back seat during rides.” Somehow, Cam Newton is to blame.

The goal is that riders who overindulged that evening will become so engrossed that they forget to pester the driver. (Via)

It’s not the worst idea. Drunk people love loud, annoying things (why do you think Kid Rock is so popular?). And for the drivers, listening to Bop It is preferable to being bopped, twisted, and pulled by abusive passengers.
