This Bride Is Going Viral For Breastfeeding At Her Wedding

You can add Christina Torino-Benton’s name to a long list of moms who are going viral for breastfeeding their children this month including a woman who was harassed at a Target, and a recent college graduate who needed to feed her child during her graduation ceremony. Torino-Benton submitted a candid professional photo that was taken during her wedding to a Facebook breastfeeding group called Breastfeeding Mama Talk thinking that it might get a few likes, little did she know it would receive close to 8,000 likes in less than a week and be featured in People magazine.

The photo, which was taken by wedding photographer Lana Nimmons, shows a nervous Torino-Benton sitting at her wedding ceremony holding her 9-month-old daughter Gemma who was crying up against her chest. Let’s be honest here, it was a good thing her dress was strapless! Torino-Benton spoke to People about the events leading up to the now viral picture.

“I tried for maybe two minutes to allow some family members to calm her down, but having missed her nap, and in that heat, it wasn’t going to happen. There was no question. I had to nurse, and I wasn’t hesitant about it at all.”

The 30-year-old bride from Montreal said that her daughter eventually fell back to sleep and was a little angel throughout the mass. Like a lot of stories regarding breastfeeding, Torino-Benton has received some negative comments, but the new bride is extremely happy that her photographer was able to capture a touching moment between mother and daughter during such a joyous event.
