Chewbacca Mom Hits A Home Run By Performing A Top Notch Version Of The National Anthem

It seems like Candace Payne a.k.a. Chewbacca Mom’s 15-minutes of fame is still on the clock. Last month the giggling Star Wars fanatic appeared at Dallas’ Fan Expo selling pictures and signatures for $20 bucks a pop and Hasbro even turned the Texas mother into an action figure. You would think that by now some new viral YouTube sensation would have taken the crown from the 37-year-old mother of two, but she’s still riding the instant fame wave appearing at a Houston Astros game in Minute Maid park to sing the National Anthem.

Most of the time when teams get celebrities or viral stars to sing the National Anthem, they do it for a publicity stunt and the person can barely carry a tune. Remember Roseanne Barr’s version? Fortunately for our ears, Chewy Mom can actually sing! Payne apparently has a degree in Musical Theater, but “put her dreams on hold” to start a family. Unfortunately, Chewbacca Mom decided that she would perform sans her signature Chewbacca mask, probably out of respect for the National Anthem. Despite the crowd cheering, she also missed a massive opportunity to at least belt out one famous Chewy roar at the end, but you have to hand it to her, she was able to sing the National Anthem at a Major League Baseball game. I bet the “Damn Daniel” guys can’t even beg a Minor League team to let them do that now that their 15 minutes has gone by.
