Goodwill Wants You To Donate Your Ex’s Stuff Instead Of Burning It This Valentine’s Day

No one escapes Valentine’s Day unscathed. For couples, it puts an inordinate amount of pressure on one randomly assigned day, leading people to question their relationships and get each other generic and usually disappointing gifts. But for single people, it is a special kind of hell. Between an avalanche of gift guides and even Dairy Queen reminding you that no one loves you enough to bring you chocolates, it is often a time that leads to reflection on past failed relationships. However, Goodwill is here to save you from yourself.

Instead of breaking out that box of love souvenirs to either burn or weep over, the Goodwills in Sarasota, Florida, and Las Vegas, Nevada, are spearheading a campaign called  “Donate Your Ex’s Stuff,”  starting on February 15. Apparently the campaign launch featured the truest hallmarks of a break up: pizza and listening to Taylor Swift. Not only do the participating Goodwills encourage people to let go of the past, but they can do a little good at the same time.

“We’re telling people they can turn the hate into donate and they’ll feel great in the process,” Kelly Davis Strausbaugh, marketing and public relations coordinator for Goodwill Manasota, told ABC News. “Instead of throwing items away, they can donate to Goodwill and help turn them into jobs. We don’t like break-ups but this is a way to make it a little more fun and tongue-in-cheek.”

So, if you live in the area, it just might be time to get rid of that old t-shirt or teddy bear. You’ll probably feel a lot better after.
