The ‘Ball Pit Bar’ Era Is Finally Here

Almost everyone dreams of submerging themselves in a pit of endless balls, right? Did that come out right? Maybe not…Anyway! Last weekend the world’s first pop-up ball pit bar opened for two days and guess what, it did not disappoint!

The innovative idea came to fruition thanks to a nonprofit called Forward Motion which “helps individuals live out their dreams and make them a reality.” To which every dreamer out there responds, “We want ball pits!”

Forward Motion founder Ryan Lum came up with the ball pit bar idea after talking to the owner of Romper Room, a bar in San Francisco. The two pleasure seekers agreed it would be fun to be drunk and surrounded by balls so they set out to make their dreams a reality.

Though the idea itself was essentially fool-proof the minute it occurred, acquiring the funds to make it happen were not as easy. It took over a year to accrue enough cash for all 40,000 balls necessary to make Lum’s dreams come true.

Romper Room hosted the event March 19-20th and according to Lum it was a huge hit. People danced, they did the limbo, they had ball fights, the whole nine yards.

Anyone who’s fantasized about this kind of night out and missed the first ever ball pit pop-up bar will have a chance to experience the fun again at a San Francisco nightclub called Monarch in April.

Honestly, you’re probably better off waiting to go until it gets warm again and people aren’t walking cesspools of illness just waiting to sneeze all over a vat of plastic balls.
