Gwyneth Paltrow Is Stung By Bees As Part Of Her Beauty Regimen Because She’s Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow can be…quirky. The actress best known for Se7en, Shakespeare in Love, and the Iron Man trilogy is probably even more well known for her holistic lifestyle, “Goop” website, and crazily cliché lifestyle tips for the “everyman” that reads the site. So it should really come as no surprise that her latest beauty tip reveal involves intentionally inflicting pain in order to look and feel like her best self. According to her conversation with The New York Times, Paltrow takes part in “apitherapy,” AKA getting stung by bees.

But generally, I’m open to anything. I’ve been stung by bees. It’s a thousands of years old treatment called apitherapy. People use it to get rid of inflammation and scarring. It’s actually pretty incredible if you research it. But, man, it’s painful. I haven’t done cryotherapy yet, but I do want to try that.

Well at least she’s stopped short of standing in sub-zero temperatures for an extended period of time. That’s a relief. Of course she also sticks with the more traditional treatments and beauty methods — her smoothies, her skin creams — but this might be a new record for how esoteric and upper class Gwyneth gets in her lifestyle and beauty practices. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing. If you or I had as much money and fame as good old Gwyn there’s no guaranteed we wouldn’t be getting massagers from untamed panthers or acupuncture from live porcupines or something just as crazy. Plus, if bee stings are truly how Paltrow stays looking so young and refreshed then who can blame her?
