These Harry Potter Superfans Turned Their Dining Room Into The Great Hall

Despite having access to Harry Potter books and movies whenever you want, and despite being able to visit “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” in Orlando, Japan, and Hollywood, and despite an entire spinoff prequel series coming out this year AND despite the introduction of a North American School of Magic, people still can’t get enough Harry Potter. Which is why they’re spending thousands of dollars to turn their actual homes into Harry Potter themed dwellings.

The Kyriakou family of Bayston Hill, England told the Shropshire Star they decided to transform their dining room into The Great Hall after a trip to Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studios in London. According to Charlotte Kyriakou, she and her partner Andrew began the project last March with the help of their three children.

The couple decided they wanted the room to stand apart from the rest of the house. In an eerily quiet video posted on YouTube, you can see the wood panels made by Mr Kyriakou, stone looking walls delivered from Spain, and other authentic decor purchased at antique shops. The video is super creepy and it feels like something could pop out at any moment,  but we assure you, nothing jumps up and screams.

Real props from the set were also used in the design. As the video shows, the dining room features banners from each of the four Hogwarts houses, a Marauder’s Map, chocolate frogs, a sorting hat, and a tiny replica of Dobby. There are even quills, a suit of armor and a broomstick in the dining room. The design is both fantastical and practical. Mrs. Kyriakou told the Shropshire Star they hosted 22 guests for Christmas and the family really enjoys sharing meals around the table.

Do you know what we enjoy? $15,000 and a cheap dining room with a regular sized table so we don’t have to host Christmas. To each his own!
