Selfies certainly seem like fun and games. At least, they do until someone falls down a flight of stairs at the Taj Mahal and dies. And if you think an instance like that is rare, well… okay, it is. But, not as rare as shark attacks, making “taking a selfie” a much greater risk than “vacationing on Amity Island.”
So far this year, there have been 12 reported deaths while attempting to take a selfie. Compare that to the number of reported deaths caused by sharks. That would be a grand total of eight. Granted, the year isn’t over yet, but the numbers seem to be trending in the sharks’ favor.
It’s not selfies in general that are inherently dangerous, of course. Rather, it’s the ludicrous lengths people go to take “daredevil” selfies that cause injuries and deaths. Attempting to take photos in dangerous areas (cliffs, train tracks, etc.) or with wild animals. With that in mind, selfies have been banned during the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain because, well… duh. Other dangerous activities have caused tourism departments for many countries to add a warning to their promotional materials.
There’s no word yet as to how many people have died attempting to take a selfie with a shark, however.

Fuck selfies and fuck people who take selfies.
There, I feel better now.
Fuck people who take photos of themselves with other people and still call them selfies.
“Youies. That’s what I call selfies of other people.”

I’m still waiting for the widespread use of the nickname I heard a while back for selfie sticks. (hasn’t seemed to catch on) “Narcisstick” God damn brilliant, should be trademarked.

Darwin’s corpse just got a desiccated, Slim Jim boner.
Hell, I’VE killed more people this year than sharks have.
Mostly for taking selfies.
Maybe if the Chinese didn’t kill all the sharks, their stats would be better.
