Hot Topic’s New ‘The Force Awakens’ Collection Is The Ultimate In ‘Star Wars’ Awesomeness

Having trouble crafting the perfect, but still casual, Rey cosplay? Well then here is some great news, as Hot Topic is rolling out an awesome Star Wars: The Force Awakens clothing collection just in time for Summer “Con” season. Similar in nature to the Hot Topic DC Women collection, the clothing is more than just T-shirts and apparel with characters or movie motifs splashed all over them. The collection was created in tandem with popular geek and sci-fi clothing shop Her Universe, which has everything from Tardis dresses to Captain America-themed ensembles geared towards women. More specifically, the collection was brought to life by the winners of a Her Universe fashion design competition held at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Since that was more than six months before the release of The Force Awakens, it’s safe to say these looks have been in development for a long time.

But boy, was that wait worth it. While some sci-fi inspired clothing can come off as too geared towards Halloween or not specific enough to a certain character, this collection is on point with every look. The dresses, jackets, and cardigans all have specific ties to characters while still being fun, attractive, and comfortable (at least they look it). The best two items, for this writer at least, are hands down the Rey cardigan and the Storm Trooper dress. Snag the The Rey cardigan now before every female fan in your general vicinity gets it first. It isn’t so overtly a Star Wars tie-in that you couldn’t wear it as just a fashionable piece of clothing if you so chose. It looks light enough for summer what with the shoulder cutouts and breezy fabric, without steering too far away from Rey’s life as a scavenger on a desert planet. The black detailing on the Storm Trooper dress is trendy and cool, and the watermarked helmet print is an understated addition to what would otherwise be just a black and white dress.

Of course, no Star Wars clothing collection would be complete without a BB-8 option as well, so don’t fret there is a dress based on the droid as well. You could also opt for the darker side of the Star Wars universe with jackets inspired by Kylo Ren and the rest of his cronies. Is it a bad thing if you opt for the dark side just because those outfits are flattering for your frame? We still love you, Rey and Finn!
