We launched UPROXX Life at the tail end of August with a focus on food, travel, and adventure. In the months since, we’ve done our best to tell “human” stories — stories that you’ll connect with on some personal level. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s a certain life philosophy, or maybe it’s through the writing itself.
We hope you’ve enjoyed reading the material on UPROXX Life half as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it. We promise to continue to grow, evolve, and get better in the year to come. Have advice for us? We’d love to hear it in the comments!
In the meantime, here are a few favorite stories you might have missed!
We Got Excited About Food
- Danger Guerrero shared his take on the many wonders and glories of pizza.
- Vince Mancini went to lunch with Phil Rosenthal of I’ll Have What Phil’s Having and came home with a whole new philosophy on food.
- Steve Bramucci went out to lunch with DJ Yella of N.W.A. in Compton and had some of the best barbecue he’s ever tasted.
- Bonnie Pipkin launched EAT THIS CITY — where you can get superb dining advice from some of the best chefs in the country.
We Wrote About Travel
- Ben Esch told us where to go to get the Endor travel experience.
- We shared nine places to visit to see a real Jurassic Park.
- Parker Hilton waxed philosophic on the joys of long-term road tripping.
- Steve Bramucci raved about his time in Nicaragua — where he learned to be an ‘aficionado.’
- We encouraged you to visit Paris — even in light of recent tragedies.
- Trevor Morrow did a deep exploration of the future of travel that included interviews with two of the world’s leading “futurists.” He also declared that South Dakota is wildly underrated (and readers seemed to agree).
- On the practical tip, we offered keys to finding cheap flights online.
We Told Tales Of Dazzling Adventures
- We dove deep to get the story of Kelly Slater and John John Florence’s historic Teahupo’o heat in 2014. Later, Slater brought Steve Bramucci surfing with fellow star Bethany Hamilton.
- We sent Vince Mancini to Montana — where he discovered that glamping is better than camping in every way.
- Steve Bramucci spoke to Everest climbers on the veracity of the movie and what it’s like to reach the summit.
- Parker Hilton got to know Christopher Many, a travel-philosopher with lots of wisdom to share.
We Examined Our Relationship With The Wild Word
- Ariel Woodruff dove deep on Floyd Mayweather’s pet tiger. (Which started a heated debate in the comments!) She also covered tigers (and their impending extinction) earlier in the year.
- Ariel also urged us to preserve Northern White Rhinos.
- We wrote about Cecil the Lion a lot — and started some great discussion.
We Shared The Stories That Connect Us
- Mark Shrayber inspired us with his visit to watch elderly daredevils check a few items off of their bucket lists. For reasons yet undetermined, he also ate 12-pounds of candy.
- Ben Esch reflected on the famous “toilet scrubbing travelers.” He also taught us how to go bald with dignity.
- E.S. Huffman looked at how ‘Tickle Me Elmo’ caused absolute hysteria not so long ago.
