James Franco Has Acquired The Rights To Chuck Palahniuk’s ‘Rant’

Chuck Palahniuk was very excited to share the news today that his 2008 best-selling novel Rant is coming to the big screen. The story of Buster “Rant” Casey is obviously pretty f*cked up, as it is set in a dystopian future and involves people competing in a secret game of demolition derby, all while the world becomes an even worse place as time passes. Seriously, I don’t even really know how to effectively describe Rant, other than to just keep saying that it’s a pretty f*cked up book. Now, hopefully, it’s set to become a pretty f*cked up movie as well, because James Franco’s Rabbit Bandini Productions has locked up the film rights for it, and Palahniuk seems to be pretty stoked.

As of last night we’ve finalized a deal for James Franco to option my novel Rant. Details about the casting, shooting and a proposed release date will be forthcoming. Hurray. After the opportunity to work with Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Sam Rockwell, I can’t imagine a more exciting actor to work with than Franco. (Via Litreactor)

I assume that “Hooray” is a happy one, despite the rather bland punctuation. Personally, my “Hooray” is followed by no less than six exclamation points, because I want people to know that it’s big honking deal. As for the extent of Franco’s involvement, Deadline claims that he’s “eyeing playing the title role,” but nobody really knows anything at this point, other than Rant is eventually coming to the big screen, and it might be written by Pamela Romanowsky (The Adderall Diaries).
