The ‘Gremlins’ Reboot That Shouldn’t Happen Might Not Happen After All

Ever since the faint whispers of a Gremlins reboot began circulating in 2013, it seemed like many were against the idea of restarting Joe Dante and Chris Columbus’ 1984 classic about a cute little furball who sprouts a horde of malicious monsters. Gremlins is one of those hallowed 80s films that seems just perfect the way it is. Writer-producer Seth Grahame-Smith spoke to EW recently and updated the status of the project.

I think we just ran out of steam. It’s one of those things where everybody got busy doing other things. It’s something I would love to come back to, but right now Steven’s making two movies back to back and Chris Columbus is busy. We’re all taking a five-minute break on that.

The Steven that Grahame-Smith is referring to is Steven Spielberg, who serves as a producer on the film. Sadly, although the movie’s destiny is in question for now, it doesn’t mean that Grahame-Smith won’t aspire to finish it sometime, or maybe someone else will pick up the film. The point is: you can expect to see a Gremlins reboot at sometime in the future because opposition to 80s films remakes is futile. One must take it as a way of life now.
