Last week, someone passed along the trailer for the upcoming Liam Neeson and Ed Harris rampage thriller Run All Night, which tells the story of two old badasses facing off over their fledgling badass sons. Along with the trailer, a friend included the message, “Looks right up your alley, bro,” but I just sighed. Sure, I loved John Wick so much that I won’t stop talking about it, and 2015 started out great with the surprisingly fun and clever Everly, but when it comes to Hollywood’s old guard playing ageless tough guys who are bulletproof and bad to the bone, I need something more. Thank God director Ernie Barbarash knows exactly what I’m talking about.
In his upcoming film Pound of Flesh, aging-but-resurgent badass Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a man in a situation that all of our parents warned us about before we went on our first Spring Break trips. Van Damme’s Deacon wakes up in a bathtub filled with ice, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “after a brief night with a mysterious seductress.” Organ thieves have stolen his kidney, so naturally he’s pissed and wants it back. But it’s even better than that, because Deacon already planned on giving that kidney to his sick niece.
I know, I can’t believe this is the plot of an actual movie either, but I haven’t felt this excited about a rampage film since, well, the first trailer for Everly. However, it gets even better…
“This is certainly the best Jean-Claude Van Damme action movie in many years,” says [Odyssey Media’s Kirk] Shaw. “We have a sequence in this film with JCVD doing the splits while holding on to the side of a fleeing car. That’s 100 percent JCVD onscreen doing the stunts.” (Via THR)
GET THE F*CK RIGHT OUT OF HERE. Slated for a May release (VOD, if I had to guess), Pound of Flesh can’t get here soon enough. Fortunately, THR debuted this trailer for what will undoubtedly be one of the most ridiculous movies of 2015.
