Remember actress Lupita Nyong’o’s extravagant Oscars gown made almost entirely out of pearls? The supposedly $150,000 dress was stolen from her hotel room the day after the awards show. Why? Well aside from the fact it was composed of 6,500 white Akoya pearls, the thieves probably thought it’d look nice on their nana. (Um, it was totally the money.)

According to TMZ, the notorious DRESS HEIST of 2015 has come to an end. The alleged robber called the station to confess the crime and reveal the dress’s location:

A guy called us at around 2:30 PM Friday and said he had taken the dress from Lupita’s hotel room after he noticed the door was ajar. He said he and others took 2 pearls off of the dress and took them to the garment district in downtown L.A….where they were told they weren’t real.

The thief says he decided to take the dress back to the London in a garment bag that was inside a trash bag that he deposited in a 2nd floor bathroom adjacent to a fitness center.

We contacted the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. and gave them the info. They went over to the hotel and retrieved the bag and they found a garment bag with the dress inside.

Impressive, to say the least. Yet the thief’s allegation regarding the pearls’ lack of quality suggests the $150,000-price tag might be overstated. Or, to put it in the caller’s own words, just another sign of “Hollywood’s fake bullsh*t.”
