We’ve Probably Seen The Last Of Neil Patrick Harris As An Oscars Host

Despite the fact that a lot of people would love to see him return for the 88th annual Academy Awards next year, Neil Patrick Harris is probably hanging up his tighty-whities. The beloved and absurdly charming actor’s effort was met with mixed reviews, which is basically the norm for the most thankless gig in show business. Still, it’s an awards show and he was pretty funny and entertaining, and the attention spans of most awards show viewers will have forgotten all about it by the time next year’s show rolls around. So why not get back on that golden statue, Doogie?

“I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it,” he said with a laugh. “It’s a beast. It was fun to check off the list, but for the amount of time spent and the understandable opinionated response, I don’t know that it’s a delightful balance to do every year or even again.”

Even when he could rightfully tell all of his critics to f*ck off, Harris is a class act enjoying a ride on the highest road.

“It’s so difficult for one who’s simply watching the show to realize just how much time and concession and compromise and explanation has gone into almost every single thing,” Harris said. “And I’m not saying that to defend everything I said as if it was the absolute best choice, but it’s also an award show, and you’re powering through 14 acts filled with 20 plus awards. So, my job was to try and keep things as light and specific to this year’s set of films as possible. And if people are critical of that, it’s a big giant platform, so I would assume that they would be.” (Via the HuffPo/Variety)

Again, it’s an award show. There are literally a million other things that people could critique and complain about, but instead we settle for pushing away the people we love the most. Think about that next year when the host is Larry the Cable Guy.
