Actor Christian Bale is known for his physically-demanding body of work. Be it Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, or disgustingly-thin roles like The Machinist and The Fighter, Bale is never one to shy away from molding his body for his director’s needs. You’d think he’d be a pretty careful guy as a result.

According to Deadline, that’s not really the case. Bale tore several ligaments in one (or possibly both) of his knees after an unknown accident at his home. All indications suggest he’ll make a speedy recovery, but the studio isn’t taking any chances.

He has been filming The Big Short with Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt and Steve Carell in New Orleans, but they play stockbrokers and it’s not physically demanding. He plays a salvage hunter in the Fox film and that’s a lot more physically demanding. They all still want to go forward with what could start a franchise for the studio, so they’ll do the movie after Mangold finishes the next Wolverine installment, also for Fox.

They should have invested in a pseudo-futuristic leg brace and a severe scolding from Michael Caine:
