Vin Diesel wants the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to know he isn’t kidding about that Oscar for Furious 7. He wants to win Best Picture, and he wants it bad.

During the press junkets for Furious 7, Vin Diesel has claimed that the film will be nominated for Best Picture at the 2016 Academy Awards, and it will win “unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.” There were questions about how serious Diesel was about that statement, and he wants people to know that he is “dead serious:”

“I think this is a movie that makes people cry, makes people laugh and the emotional thrust of this movie is not like anything else,” he explained.

…”Something that the Oscars never take into consideration is the ability to make an audience cheer… you never cheer in the theater, so to compound the laughing, the crying, the emotions… sooner or later you have to acknowledge the feat, the miracle that it is to pull off a movie like this.”

Diesel isn’t the only Furious 7 star pushing for Oscar gold. His co-stars Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, and Jason Statham also weighed in on the film’s chances at the Academy Awards, and while they’re optimistic, they’re a bit more realistic with their expectations:

Tyrese Gibson: “I don’t really know if the Oscars can compete with the energy that is happening here… I know a lot of people were like, ‘That’s a stretch,’ the thing is, you gotta read it as passion. It says a lot about his passion for the franchise, what we’ve been through in order for us to get here and I’m in support of that passion. If they’re handing out Oscars for someone that has some funny one-liners in a movie, then I’ll be ready to get it, but [an Oscar for my role] is a stretch.”

Jordana Brewster: “God bless, I hope so. That would be amazing. I don’t know, what [Vin] touches turns to gold.”

Jason Statham: “Vin’s been the centerpiece for this and he’s been very passionate, as all the people involved are. It’s all about the flavor — what food you like, what movies do you go see, what music do you listen to… no one’s got the right way or the wrong way. [Me at the Oscars?] Serving drinks perhaps.”

Oscar nominees would be lucky to have Jason Statham serve them drinks. If he’s half as good at mixing cocktails as he is at kicking ass, they will all be drinking well that night.
