Louis C.K. is known for a lot of things — his standup comedy, late-night TV appearances, short-lived HBO sitcom, Emmy Award-winning series on FX, and ill-advised boating adventures. Directing feature films is not one of them.

Though the comedian wrote and directed the 2001 comedy Pootie Tang, his experience with feature films in the years since has primarily been smaller parts in movies like Role Models, Blue Jasmine, and American Hustle. According to The Hollywood Reporter, however, Louis is finally set to return to the big screen as the writer, director, and star of the forthcoming indie flick, I’m a Cop:

And mirroring Louie, C.K. will perform triple-duties for the film — writing, directing and starring in the indie I’m a Cop, which is being produced by heavyweight producer Scott Rudin.

The script tells of a depressed middle-aged man who is a volunteer police officer living in the shadow of his mother, a highly decorated retired officer. When she dies, her continued influence forces him to become a real police officer, which is something he never wanted to be.

Apparently set on more than just picking up where he left off, the ever-evolving comedian suggests he’s learned a lot over the last 14 years and feels ready to apply his acquired knowledge to his latest endeavor:

“I don’t feel like I need anyone to tell me anything with a TV show because I know exactly what I’m doing, but I’d be arrogant to think that I can take someone’s $8 million and just turn in a movie,” he said. “Movies are different. There’s a permanency to them.”
