The Hulk Almost Turned Grey In ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ And There Are Toys To Prove It

Sometimes movies make last-minute changes and with digital special effects, you could change the entire course of a character. That’s probably why Marvel decided that having Bruce Banner transform into Grey Hulk was something that should be saved for another day. If you haven’t seen Avengers: Age of Ultron, be aware that some spoilers will follow.

After Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) had his mind warped by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) tried to calm his buddy down while trying — and failing — to prevent the Hulk from tearing a city apart in his bewildered rage. In case of emergencies, Stark had built “Veronica,” also known as the Hulkbuster, to contend with the massive strength of Banner’s alter ego. Here’s a little bit of that:

It was during this heightened, out-of-control scene that the Hulk was supposed to turn from green to grey, but as Mike Seymour from Wired put it, “everyone wanted the green guy.”

But /Film points out that if we’re going by the Grey Hulk from the Marvel comics, then having the Hulk turn grey when he’s even more out of control than usual wouldn’t have made much sense; Grey Hulk was all about being under control. Instead, Red Hulk would have been ideal, but between the mostly red Iron Man suit and Scarlet Witch, that’s a lot of red.

As for what remains of the cinematic Grey Hulk, all we really have is the Funko POP Vinyl figurine, which is actually still available to buy.
