matthew maccaull

Matthew MacCaull is an actor who portrays Dave Clark in Disney’s Tomorrowland, which opens in theaters nationwide this week. Previously, you may have seen him in Bates Motel and/or The Killing.

Matthew was nice enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule recently to answer a few questions from us.

1. You walk into a bar. What do your order from the bartender?

Jack Daniel’s on the rocks. No Jack? IPA.

2. Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter?

@alecbaldwin and @richardbranson – both visionaries, one more hilarious than the other.

3. What’s currently waiting for you on your DVR/TiVO?

Don’t have one. I’m a Netflix fan and can watch (or binge watch) whenever I have the time. But House of Cards is a definite favorite! Love a good political thriller.

4. It’s your last meal — what are you going out with?

My grandmother’s hash: the best – PEI potatoes, beef, and anything else she can fit in there from yesterday’s supper.

5. What websites do you visit on a regular basis?

dictionary.com, thesaurus.com, Netflix, and anything that can help me research my characters like Wikipedia, YouTube, or IDEA (the International Dialects of English Archive).

6. What’s the most frequently played song on your mobile device?

Haha. Right now, it’s probably “Back in the Village” by Iron Maiden. They’re basically my entire playlist these days.

7. The first face that comes to mind when you think “punchable?”

Either my own after a bad audition or anyone who favors intolerance over understanding.

8. What’s the last thing you googled?

Surfing in the Mentawai Islands – dream vacation!

9. Dogs or cats?

When I have more property, definitely dogs. But in my small apartment right now, cats.

10. Best concert of your life was…?

There have been quite a few, but seeing The Eagles with my brother a year and a half ago was pretty sweet. Also the Plant/Page Tour in ’95 was awesome.

11. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?

A Farewell to Arms – Hemingway. Honest and simple. I read that book more than a decade ago, and I still think about it often.

12. What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

My grandmother set me up with my first job picking strawberries when I was 10 years old. She taught me many things, and a work ethic is definitely one of them.

13. South Park or Family Guy?

Love Family Guy, but South Park has the added layer of up-to-the-minute satire. Brilliant!

14. You have an entire day to do whatever you want. What would you do?

Go surfing with my friends.

15. What movie can you not resist watching if it’s on?

There are so many, but the one that keep’s coming up over and over is Kubrick’s  The Shining. Recently went to the Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, Oregon for a couple days. That’s where they shot the exteriors for the Overlook Hotel. It was awesome!

16. The sports team or teams you’re most passionate about?

I’m not a super sports fan when it comes to watching. I’m more into playing the game. But I do enjoy watching the Vancouver Canadians single A baseball in the summer with my friends on the third base line and a beer in my hand, and of course the Vancouver Canucks (especially during playoffs). We get outside during intermission and play a little pick-up in the back alley. I’m proud to say I’m “the winningest goalie of all-time” in our league. I’m also the only goalie.

17. Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

Again, on my grandparents farm in Prince Edward Island. Nothing like country home cookin’!

18. The last movie you saw in a theater?

The Gunman – Sean Penn’s socio-political action movie. Felt like I had seen the beats of the story before, but I appreciated the commentary on big business interfering with the democratic process in Africa, and of course the shot of Spicoli surfing off the Congolese coast.

19. Who was your first celebrity crush?

Pretty Sure it was Elle Macpherson. ‘Nuff said.

20. What would you cook if Nic Cage was coming to your house for dinner?

Cook up a big fat jazz cigarette and listen to that dude wax philosophy and conspiracy theory all night! He’s the man!
