James Gunn Has Completed His First Draft For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’

James Gunn confirmed on Twitter that the first draft of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is done and that the full title of the film is a “spoiler” and still under wraps.

On Twitter, Gunn posted a picture of the completed first draft, and on Facebook, he apologized to the friends and family that he ignored for the last 48 days:

Though Gunn promised “no spoilers,” he previously dropped some hints of what Marvel fans can expect in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, such as the reveal of Peter Quill’s father and the expectation that the movie will be much different from the comic books. Of course, nothing is set in stone yet, considering that Gunn isn’t scheduled to start filming until next year, and a lot of the script could change by the time it opens in theaters:

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 doesn’t begin shooting until February 2016 for its May 2017 release date so there are plenty of revisions to come throughout the rest of the year. With most movies, and certainly Marvel films, the early drafts of the screenplay serve more or less as a baseline. Writers like Joss Whedon (Avengers 1 & 2) and James Gunn constantly tweak and make changes during production, even on the day of shooting a sequence, most of the time to fit in better dialogue or build scenes around what the talent is suggesting for different sequences.

However, since Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t tying in much with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, rewrites will probably have more to do with dialogue and character than setting up the next movie or maintaining continuity from Ant-Man or Captain America: Civil War. Doctor Strange, on the other hand, is so outlandish than he would probably fit right in alongside a sentient tree and a talking raccoon.
