Michael Bay’s Next Movie Will Be A Time Traveling Thrill Ride

Michael Bay’s latest directorial offering is going to be an adaptation of Wesley Chu’s Time Salvager for Paramount. The movie, which will be in the dystopian/science fiction genre, is set in a future where humans have left earth (I will bet you $10 there’s a scene where earth literally explodes in 3D) and colonized the stars. Also, there’s time travel. According to The Wrap, the story’s pretty epic, with lots and lots of room for Bay’s signature pyrotechnics.

The story follows a convicted criminal named James Griffin-Mars, who is identified as one of a select group ideally suited for time-travel missions that could delay humanity’s demise. He’s sent to Earth’s past to recover resources and treasure without altering the timeline. On a final mission that will secure his retirement, James meets Elise Kim, an intriguing scientist from a previous century, who’s fated to die during the destruction of an ocean rig. James brings Elise back to the future with him, saving her life, but turning them both into fugitives.

The deal, which hasn’t been confirmed by Paramount (and was confirmed and then deleted from Chu’s blog) has apparently moved very quickly. No release date has been set and a cast hasn’t even begun to assemble, but The Wrap reports that the film will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian and that Bay was very excited to come aboard. According to Chu’s now-deleted blog entry, he has every confidence in the movie being a success.
