The ‘Krampus’ Trailer Is Here To Ruin Your Holiday Season

The Christmas horror movie is a lost art. Black Christmas, Gremlins, and Christmas Evil are stone-cold classics, and Jack Frost, well, at least it’s not the other, lesser Jack Frost, a mistake thousands of video-store renters made in the 1990s.

Krampus, Michael Dougherty’s upcoming film about Santa’s evil sidekick, hopes to be more Silent Night, Bloody Night than Jingle All the Way (what? it’s legit horrifying). Based on the trailer, the movie, which stars Adam Scott, Allison Tolman, and Toni Collette, leans more toward horror than comedy, but so did most of the early footage for Dougherty’s other film, the very funny Trick ‘r Treat. Dougherty and Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve, and Mother’s Day director Garry Marshall should team up and make the scariest, most star-studded holiday classic ever.

So, Jingle All the Way… Again. Here’s the plot summary:

When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers. All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.

Krampus komes out Dec. 4.
