Who Is The Mystery Oscar Winner Teasing Leonardo DiCaprio Online?

The saga of Leonardo DiCaprio and the Oscars is long and well noted around these parts. The Internet has long had some fun and felt the pain of DiCaprio’s quest for award recognition, only to see him fall time and again. Well, now someone posting as iHasanOscar on Imgur has been quietly mocking DiCaprio for his lack of a statue, all thanks to the image above.

It would seem that our mystery Oscar winner noticed it floating around Imgur a few months ago and decided to share his or her own award with the fellow users on Imgur. Checking out the comments on the page, you can tell the posted caused a bit of a stir and many demanded to know who the person was, with no luck. And really it could be anybody. The folks over at New Media Rockstars have noted that The Academy has awarded 2,947 statues since their inception and it really could be anybody. It doesn’t even have to be a winner according to this 2013 article by Pete Hammond over at Deadline:

In case any more recent winners are looking to make a fast buck for their Oscar, be warned that a sale like this for any Oscar post-1950 is completely illegal. That is when the Academy started making winners sign an agreement that they or their heirs could not sell their Oscar without first offering it back to the Academy for the paltry sum of $1. Of course, this hasn’t stopped the practice even for those statuettes, and it has been estimated that at least 200 Oscars have been sold in the past and I would guess that a great number of them are post-1950. With this kind of black market in Oscar statuettes, it is obvious that not everyone with the coveted gold man on their mantel actually won it — or was at least related to a winner.

The most recent posting is this image, showing our friend watching Revolutionary Road and pausing at just the right moment to catch Leo in the act of scolding his or her Oscar. It looks really nice, too. Not some old trashy Oscar from the ancient days of Hollywood. This is recent.

So who do you think this is? Some lowly screenwriter or below-the-line player who loves internet humor as much as the next person? Or is it someone bigger, like maybe Matthew McConaughey, just rubbing it in during his off time from his latest Lincoln commercial?
