Who Wants Candy? Check Out This Heartfelt Tribute To The Legendary John Candy

Jason Priestley is directing a biopic about Phil Hartman, the late, great comedic genius from The Simpsons and NewsRadio. The only thing surprising about that, despite the movie being overseen by Brandon from Beverly Hills, 90210, is that it hasn’t happened already. Same with Amy Winehouse, starring The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘s Noomi Rapace. “Based on a true story” is all the rage right now, yet no one’s bothered to dramatize John Candy’s life.

Not that I’m complaining. If anyone deserves a proper tribute, it’s Candy, who unfortunately died at the age of 43 in 1994. But that’s what copies of Stripes, Brewster’s Millions, Spaceballs, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Home Alone on DVD are for — who needs to watch a foolhardy actor try to impersonate Candy when you can check out the real thing?

“The real thing” can also be seen in One Perfect Shot’s heartfelt “Tell Me About John,” which “presents a completely unauthorized collection of reflections and reveries on comedy’s most humble powerhouse.” It’s great, and a great excuse to spend the rest of the day watching SCTV clips.
