It’s Going To Be A While Before We See ‘Avatar 2’

Anything Star Wars can do, Avatar can… also do. Earlier this week, Disney announced that Episode VIII‘s release date has been pushed back from May 26, 2017 to December 15, 2017, during the heart of “spending an insane amount of money on toys” season. Avatar 2, James Cameron’s mysterious sequel to the highest grossing movie of all-time, was also supposed to come out in December 2017, but according to the Wrap, the film “will not be ready in time for its planned Christmas 2017 release via Twentieth Century Fox.”

The studio on Thursday declined comment on the delay, which individuals with knowledge of the situation confirmed. There is no new release date set for the movie, or word on the two other sequels, which Fox had planned to release in the same holiday corridor in 2018 and 2019. (Via)

Cameron, who set the Christmas 2017 release date, wants to film Avatar 2, 3, and 4 at the same time, but there’s no start date for shooting yet; even the sound stages aren’t fully constructed. This is probably just as well. Avatar 2 and Episode VIII should not come out the same month. Think of the unprecedented marketing crush. Every food in America, from Krispy Kremes to creamed eels, would be dyed Na’vi blue or come on a rolling soccer ball.

Actually, that sounds great. The Croods 2 doesn’t need any theater real estate.
