‘Blade’ May Not Be Coming Back Just Yet, But Marvel Leaves The Door Open

Underworld: Blood Wars recently caught everyone’s attention when Kate Beckinsale claimed that the Blade and Underworld franchises nearly had a crossover. That revived rumors that Blade was being sharpened for a comeback, but Kevin Feige put a little cold water on those rumors even as he left the door open.

We think this movie going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on Agents of SHIELD that rather than team-up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.

The first eye-catcher there is Feige referring to ABC shows in the plural, although he might be alluding to ABC Studios, rather than the network, which has been busy with the Marvel brand lately. That said, though, even if they’re not pulling Blade out now, Marvel is likely to do so in the future. Marvel has hinted they’ll be bringing back Man-Thing, the unfortunately named swamp creature, as a character for Ghost Rider to pal around with and/or fight on Agents of SHIELD.

And Blade, at root, is an easy character to work in anywhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s a vampire-punching ninja, and even a basic cable action show can afford a good fight choreographer and some plastic fangs. So while Blade isn’t “imminent,” don’t be surprised if he turns up sooner than we think.
