Pierce Brosnan Would Be Totally Cool With Idris Elba As Bond, So It’s Settled Then, Right?

While the current 007 Daniel Craig is shooting the next James Bond film Spectre, a former 007 has weighed in on who could play the future 007. Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond in four films from 1997 to 2002, is hopping on the Idris Elba train and backing other black actors while he’s at it. When asked for comment, he said:

“Yeah, he would make a good Bond,” he said of Elba’s credentials. “Colin Salmon also. May the best man get the job and may Daniel [Craig] bring home the bacon for as long as he wants.”

Craig is currently signed on for two more outings as Bond. But who is Colin Salmon? Meet Colin Salmon and observe his fine suit-wearing talents:

Most recently, he has had roles in last year’s 24: Live Another Day and Arrow (as well as a part in the short film Little Favour, which starred a little-known Englishman named Benedict Cumberbatch). He’s also played the Deputy Chief of Staff of MI6 in… oh, three James Bond movies: Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. In addition to the trouble of having to explain intersecting Bond universes, Salmon, 52, might be a bit older than what Sony is looking for in a new Bond. There is also the matter of his existential crisis and not knowing if he wants to live or die another day, but that’s a whole other post.

Elba, on the other hand, is a strapping 42, a few years younger than Craig, and has had tons of people pushing for him to be Bond, including Sony (and Kanye West, in case that matters), as we learned from the leaks in December. He’s also not shy about being really psyched about the possibility.

But at least one former Bond is behind this and that means we can go ahead and write up that contract, right? Can we?
