Bryan Cranston Hints That A ‘Malcolm In The Middle’ Movie Hinges Upon Fan Interest

Bryan Cranston’s currently promoting Why Her?, the movie where he plays a father who feels terrorized by his daughter’s choice in prospective husbands. The dude happens to be played by James Franco, who appears to be enjoying the heck out of his own outrageous reputation and amping it up to eleven. The duo signed onto a Reddit AMA on Sunday to varied results. One of the more upvoted answers revolved around Cranston’s leveled assessment of why a Malcolm in the Middle movie hasn’t happened yet.

This isn’t the first or even the second time the subject has come up while Cranston’s promoted an array of projects. He’s a busy dude, so one would be forgiven for assuming that scheduling matters have prevented his return to the beloved show in big-screen format. However, Cranston reveals that the “conversation” has happened about the movie, and one big thing needs to happen before a greenlight does:

“There has been some conversation about that. I don’t know if or when that could happen, I guess we have to gauge the temperament of the fans to see if its something they want. But maybe. It would be fun to play with all those people again.”

So, Cranston is hinting that it’s up to the fans to demand a movie, which isn’t out of the ordinary. That’s how some projects happen — a studio drops feelers like fresh meat into a shark tank and waits for a frenzy to happen. Folks seemed interested in the Reddit forum, but they were more excited by the prospect of a Freaks and Geeks crossover.

Make it happen, Internet.
