‘Captain America: Civil War’ Will Reportedly Be Marvel’s Lengthiest Movie Yet

Most superhero movies in recent years have also been super long. The Avengers was close to 2 and 1/2 hours when it was released in 2012, and Avengers: Age of Ultron pulled into theaters last summer only a minute shorter. Granted, there is a lot of stuff to pack into films that encompass a hand full of heroes, their individual problems, as well as a big bad or two to defeat by the time everything is over and done with. DC recently followed Marvel’s example with an announced 2 hours and 31 minutes for the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is enough to slow your heart rate down enough that you need a mid-movie coffee to perk back up.

Now, it looks as if Captain America: Civil War is following suit with its own mega run time. As ComicBookMovie.com reportsCivil War is supposedly clocking in at 2 hours and 26 minutes, which makes it Marvel’s longest movie to date. Before you start to think that another 2+ hour movie about Cap and friends might be too much, remember that Civil War has to encompass the entire split between two factions of very annoyed sections of the Avengers group and then, presumably, repair that fracture before the next installment of the Avengers arrives in a few years. Steve Rogers needs a lot of time to be able to convince the notoriously stubborn Iron Man that everyone should be friends again instead of battling about the interaction and agreement between heroes and government agencies. It will probably take a full hour of the movie just for Tony Stark to lay out his case in a non-egotistical manner (if he can even achieve that).

In advance of the movie’s release, and as more preparation for a multi-hour explosion fest, check out some new posters of Team Cap. Do they give you confidence in that half of the contingent’s winning chances, or do Black Widow and Iron Man still look like the favorites in this matchup?
